Horsemanship, Sportsmanship, and Safety

Furnace Brook Farm is a USHJA Recognized Riding Academy, which means that when you ride at Furnace Brook you can be sure that you are getting the best instruction from trainers whose teachings are in line with the best practices as laid out by The United States Hunter Jumper Association. Ally is also a USHJA Certified Trainer, so you can be sure that these practices are at the forefront as she works with her students to become well rounded equestrians.

Raphael

Bred by Furnace Brook Farm owner and trainer Jenny Williams, Raphael had his first canter under saddle this month. Thanks to Jenny Williams’ expert hand at groundwork, and his month learning to drive a cart with Rachel Hennessey of Silver Ranch (Jaffrey, NH), Raph is the straightest green pony I have ever had the opportunity to work with. He has a great brain, listens incredibly well to voice commands, and has a beautiful long stride. We have high hopes for this special pony!

Adeline Z - A new home for an incredible mare

Congratulations to Sarah Lent on her recent purchase of Addie! Sarah and Addie immediately clicked when she came to try her, and trainer Wendy Johnson was able to spot right away what this talented mare needed to be successful. We are confident that they will have a bright future together, and we can’t wait to be there ringside cheering them both on.

Halloween Hunter Pace

We had so much fun on October 24th at the Apple Knoll Halloween Hunter Pace in Millis, MA. The weather was incredible and the course was well marked and had so many options for obstacles. This was Effie’s first hunter pace on Gigi, and according to her, we’ll be doing this again next year…I have to agree!

Reserve Champion at GMHA

Raphael made his rated show debut this August at GMHA and left with a slew of red ribbons and a Reserve Champion finish in the Hopeful Hunters. Raph has been getting good mileage this fall and will begin his competitive career in earnest with the start of the 2022 show season.

To New Adventures!

When Kathy came to me last spring with the idea of taking one of her two horses to a 3-phase in the fall I wasn’t sure it would work. Both horses, while solid with good brains, were older and had been enjoying a life of trail rides and living in a herd for a number of years. After a few rides on each of the mares, I let Kathy know that I thought Jade had the best shot of being successful at what she wanted: a horse that would jump quietly on a loose rein and who she could take to the event in the fall. Needless to say, I had a a great time experiencing my first 3-phase and Jade now jumps around quietly on a loopy rein (as evidenced by the picture to the left). Here’s to never saying no to new adventures!
